There are numerous species of mushrooms and increasingly many exotic varieties are being used for their remarkable flavours in oriental cooking, as well as countless other recipes. At Thompson & Morgan we are great advocates of growing your own vegetables, so why not try something a little bit different, and grow your own mushrooms? Mushroom growing may seem complicated but our easy to grow kits are provided with full instructions and require no specialist equipment. Lions' Mane (Hericium erinaceus) These mushrooms have been used traditionally in China and Japan for hundreds of years, and are renowned for their medicinal benefits. This unusual variety has a taste likened to lobster when cooked with butter, but can be eaten boiled, grilled or as an ingredient to many other dishes. The wooden dowels supplied are impregnated with mushroom mycelium ready to 'plant' into a hardwood log by drilling a hole and pushing them in. Within several months you will have your own home grown mushrooms, and crops should continue up to 5 times annually for up to 5 years. Kit contains 100 Dowels, Wax, Wax Applicator and Instructions. Please note that these dowels are available all year, however the logs should be cut during the trees dormant season, between leaf fall in autumn and early spring, and it is recommended that the dowels are planted in the log no longer than 6 weeks after the log has been cut. White Cap mushrooms are the common form of this much used vegetable that we are all familiar with. Grain spawn enables growers to follow traditional methods of growing on composted manure, and can be grown outdoors or indoors in controlled conditions. Kits are supplied with full cultural instructions. Available all year. Sow outside from spring to August. Can be grown inside only with an even temperature not below 10??C and not exceeding 20??C. 'Top Hat' makes a decorative pot plant, producing white blossom in spring and attractive bronze autumn foliage. Its plump berries are packed with health-boosting compounds and are especially delicious in pies, muffins and jams. Supplied in 9cm pots.

An early fruiting variety producing large yellow non-gritty fruits with an excellent sweet and juicy flavour. Blackberries and Tayberries are the easiest of all the berry fruits to grow in the UK. They are very tolerant to site and soil conditions and will even produce a reasonable crop if grown in semi shade once 2 years old. Our 1 year old plants are container grown rather than field grown to provide you with stronger, superior quality plants. These berries will quickly establish and reward you with a bumper crop that are delicious both cooked or eaten fresh from the bush, bursting with flavour and excellent for your health. Summer Fruiting. We believe this to be the best early fruiting raspberry available. Producing an abundance of sweet juicy fruits from spine-free canes, making harvesting a pleasurable experience that starts in mid June and carries on until almost the end of July. Plants are resistant to virus carrying Aphids. Bred in Great Britain. All of our Raspberries have been inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture for pests and diseases and certified. The bare root plants are hand graded and carefully selected before packing.
