Quirky Holidays: Flowers Aren’t Just For Valentine’s Day Anymore

Posted on January 25th, 2012 by Ji Hitzeman

Sure we give flowers for Valentine’s Day, birthdays and Mother’s Day, but there are a multitude of holidays that are just crying out for flowers. So, don’t forget to add these fun little celebrations to your calendar and treat a loved one to a flowery gift.

Surprise your best friend or maybe a childhood friend with a flower arrangement on Friendship Day. This day actually is a true “Hallmark Holiday,” created by the company’s founder way back in 1919. However, it is celebrated globally in early August, and it’s a lot of fun. Besides, what friend wouldn’t be excited about receiving an impromptu gift of flowers?

In addition to showering love, affection and flowers on Mom on Mother’s Day or Dad on Father’s Day, why not spread a little love to the grandparents, as well? Early September is the time for Grandparents’ Day. There are plenty of amazing floral arrangements that are sure to make Grandma or Grandpa’s day extra special.

Sweetest Day is an event unique to the United States that is celebrated on the third Saturday in October. The day was created in Cleveland in 1921 and was declared a day to remember orphans, the elderly, the sick and the poor, as well as to share our thanks to those who have shown us a kindness. Sweetest Day is a great day to send flowers to a special friend to say thanks and share love. You also can make a donation to a children’s home or perhaps bring treats or flowers to a retirement center in honor of this day.

If you have grandkids or perhaps nieces and nephews, consider sending them a spooky flower arrangement for Halloween. You can send flowers placed in a pumpkin vase adorned with bats or spiders or perhaps a witch’s hat. For St. Patrick’s Day, send someone a cheerful bouquet of white flowers in a bright green vase. A great Fourth of July gift would be a charming red, white and blue bouquet.

If your friend or relative loves nature, celebrate Arbor Day and send them a miniature tree to plant in their yard or perhaps a bonsai tree if they don’t have a yard. For Earth Day, send someone a beautiful, live plant which they will enjoy for years.
